Legislative Advocacy

National PTA is the oldest and largest child advocacy association in America. Legislative advocacy plays a crucial role in shaping the educational landscape for our children. The willingness of caregivers, educators, community members, and even our students to engage in meaningful discussions and share insights underscores the importance of our collective voice. Together, we have the power to influence policies, raise awareness, and create positive change in our schools and communities.

While national and state PTA have position statements, resolutions, and legislative priorities, the role of our legislative advocacy committee is to provide information on legislation and policy changes at all levels of government, from the federal government down to our local school board, that impact the educational experience of our children.

We also actively participate in the yearly Georgia PTA Day at the Capitol in which we speak directly with state legislators about important legislation being discussed. In this year's session, PTA advocated for increased funding for public schools especially for students living in poverty, more school safety funding and incentives for secure storage of firearms, more counselors in our schools to address mental health challenges, and increased access to free or low-cost breakfast and lunch for all students.
